Metallographic Testing

Metallographic testing is a technique used to study the microstructure of metals and alloys. This process involves the preparation of specimens, often by cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching to reveal the internal structure. The main goal of metallographic testing is to examine the grain structure, phases, and inclusions within the metal, which can provide valuable information about its properties, performance, and potential defects.

Non – Destructive Testing

Non destructive testing (NDT) is an engineering practice where material characteristics – some of the physical and chemical properties, product condition, size, shape and discontinuities can be detected, examined and evaluated without destroying or damaging the product. These tests are performed in a manner that does not affect the future usefulness of the object or material.

Salt Spray Test

The salt spray test is a standardized and popular corrosion test method, used to check corrosion resistance of materials and surface coatings. Usually, the materials to be tested are metallic and finished with a surface coating which is intended to provide a degree of corrosion protection to the underlying metal. Salt spray testing is an accelerated corrosion test that produces a corrosive attack to coated samples in order to predict the suitability of the coating in use as a protective finish. The appearance of corrosion products (oxides) is evaluated after a period of time. Test duration depends on the corrosion resistance of the coating; generally, the more corrosion resistant the coating is, the longer the period of testing before the appearance of oxides. The salt spray test is one of the most wide-spread and long established corrosion tests.

Welding is an engineering process that joins components or parts of similar or dissimilar compatible materials This is often done by melting the joining interfaces of the objects and adding a filler material to form a pool of molten material which forms a permanent joint after solidification.

Established in the year 2000, Industrial Development and Testing Laboratory (IDTL) is an authentic Inspection, Testing and Quality Assurance House, providing multifarious services to its customers.

IDTL provides comprehensive testing services in the field of Chemical (ferrous and non-ferrous) and Mechanical testing. It also provides Impact testing, Salt Spray testing, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Metallography testing, Metallurgical failure analysis amongst others. It undertakes other tailor made testing processes as required by its customers.

IDTL has been growing remarkably under the leadership of Mr. Mahindra Kumar Chaudhary. Today, it has all the modern facilities installed in its laboratory for chemical and mechanical testing.

Infrastucture

IDTL provides a wide array of testing services. All the requisites to offer a complete testing service to our clients have been fulfilled by us.

Spectrometric Laboratory

The Spectrometric laboratory has the sophisticated Optical Emission Spectrometer imported from M/s. Spectromaxx, Germany. This allows tests to be performed within a very short period of time.

Metallographic Laboratory

The Metallographic Laboratory has a unique inverted light microscope with a digital camera made by Operka Optical Instrument. The microscope has an in-built polarised light facility for ascertaining the clear differences between Silicate and Sulphide inclusions which otherwise is difficult using the conventional microscope.

Mechanical Testing Laboratory

The mechanical testing laboratory is equipped with 60 tonnes U.T.S machine and Hardness Testing (Brinell & Rockwell) machines.
